Our latest Trip Advisor review. Lovely to read. We must be doing something right.

We had no idea this glorious tearoom existed until my husband spotted the unobtrusive sign as we drove down Knightstone Island just to go round the little roundabout at the end. We were in the mood for tea and cake on Sunday, and boy, did Dr Fox's deliver. Like many people, we have had our fill of 'just about OK' cafe and pub fare where, with just a little more effort, 'all right' could be elevated to 'good'. However, Dr Fox's is already excellent (and has awards to prove it), so I am not sure how it could be bettered. It has a roaring fire, comfy sofa, Christmas tree (seasonal), mellow music, proper tablecloths, charming crockery, pleasant staff, spotless loo (with handcream), need I go on? 'I really fancy a great big hunk of coffee cake,' said my husband (who marches on his stomach) as we bustled in to get away from the brisk sea breeze. Imagine his delight when he saw the splendid coffee cake beckoning from the display cabinet. And he certainly got a hunk - and so did I - I couldn't finish my Victoria Sponge and had to take some home. Loose-leaf tea, little strainers, mini poinsettias (seasonal) on the table - it was all too good to be true. (As you can tell, we are veterans of the disappointing breakfast/lunch/tea and dinner in British establishments.) Business (and a birthday) took us to WSM again the following Tuesday and we headed straight for Dr Fox's for lunch (it is also open for breakfast). Yes, it was murky and miserable outside, but the tearoom promised happiness with sweet potato and coconut soup, mushroom rarebit and its smoked fish sister. Everything on the menu is tempting, thus forcing us to return. I fancy high tea next time and I read somewhere that Dr Fox's is seeking a licence in order to serve fizz with the fondant fancies (not that this establishment would actually serve such a dreadful thing, but I needed a sweetmeat beginning with f...) and finger sandwiches. I think it would be a superb venue for a private evening event, with the doors open on to the terrace, a swing band and a stunning sunset. I really enjoy British seaside towns out of season, but I am sure the tearoom is packed in the summer months. We cannot praise Dr Fox's highly enough. Yes, it is a bit more expensive than some other places, but 'you pays your money, you takes your choice'. Overseas visitors would love it and locals are lucky to have it on their doorsteps. This truly excellent tearoom has out-foxed all opposition...
